General FAQ's

What is Now Testing?

Now Testing is a SARS-CoV-2 screening centre dedicated to providing exceptional and quality service as well as quick and efficient results. With faster results, we are able to keep ourselves, our families and our communities safer. We also provide screening services for corporations and communities that need peace of mind or clearance to operate. Our belief is that testing, along with other recommended COVID safety protocols is key to helping our society open safely.

What kind of SARS-CoV-2 tests does Now Testing provide?

Now Testing uses only Health Canada Approved devices for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. We provide Rapid Antigen Testing, Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) as well as IgG / IgM serology tests. The RT-PCR test with Nucleic Acid Amplification Technique (NAAT) is required for travel outside of Canada. Our promise of 4-hour test results is not to be confused with the type of test we perform.

If I am symptomatic can I come for a test?

If you are symptomatic or have been contacted by public health you do not qualify to use our screening services. You must visit a Government testing centre. You can find more info here.

Where is your clinic located?

Now Testing is located in Toronto, Ontario.

Does Now Testing provide same day results?

We provide your results within 4 hours of taking your COVID-19 test. For an additional charge of $50 we will provide your results within 1 hour.

How does Now Testing provide results?

Now Testing sends results to the email address provided during your appointment booking. For personal security reasons we are not able to share your results with any other email than the one you register with at the time of booking. Please ensure your information is correct at the time of booking. If you have provided an incorrect email contact us at so that we may verify you through other means.

How do I confirm I registered with the right email?

Now Testing sends appointment reminders to the email on file before your reservation. If you do not receive an appointment reminder it means your email was not entered correctly into our system. If you do not receive an appointment reminder please let our administrative team know at the time of your appointment and we will make the change for you.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?

We understand that this is a very difficult time and plans change. Our cancellation policy is to provide refunds for people who cancel more than 24 hours before their appointment. If however you do not show up for your appointment we do not offer refunds. Please know that each appointment is planned for in advance and even if you do not show arrangements have been made to prepare and process your test. If you need to cancel or re-schedule please notify us 24 hours before.

What kind of swabs does Now Testing use?

Now Testing uses nasopharyngeal swab sampling for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. In cases where nasopharyngeal sampling is not possible, we also offer deep nasal or oropharyngeal with bilateral anterior nares sampling. Both of these sampling techniques have been deemed acceptable by Public Health Ontario.

What kind of COIVD-19 tests does Now Testing provide?

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) suggests collecting nasopharyngeal, or mid- turbinate or nasal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 RNA testing in symptomatic individuals with upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) or influenza like illness (ILI) suspected of having COVID-19.

While NP swab collection is widely used and the primary specimen type for commercial direct SARS-CoV- 2 test platforms, based on current available evidence, clinical practice, and availability of testing resources, the IDSA believes there are comparable alternative methods for sampling the nasal passages, when performed by experienced healthcare practitioners.

How does Now Testing operate in the Province of Ontario?

Now Testing operates under the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Health for Private Testing in the Province of Ontario. Private testing should only be considered for asymptomatic people looking for re-assurance testing outside of the public system. Now Testing is in continual contact with local Public Health units as per the requirements by law. We are obligated to report all positive tests. In the event you do test positive Public Health may ask you to come for confirmatory testing. Under no circumstance should a negative test result negate the need for other public health strategies such as symptom screening, hang hygiene and physical distancing. Please see our terms of service for more information.

Can I use your test results for travel purposes?

Every country has specific guidelines and requirements for entry when it comes to COVID-19. Nearly all require the RT-PCR test that Now Testing provides. If you are traveling we ask that you please send a sample of our report to verify with your travel destination prior to booking with us. Kindly email us at and we will send you a sample of our report for you to share with the local travel authority. Please note that all destinations have different criteria for what they deem acceptable and it’s important you verify our report before you book with us. For people who are travelling we recommend booking a test one or two days before your departure. In the rare event that your test results come back invalid or require further analysis we want to ensure you have enough time to get your results before you depart.

Please note that as of late some governments around the world have instituted policies that require Covid tests within 24 hours. This means tests MUST be provided same day. We always recommend travelers add some buffer time between their tests and flight however in these instances that is not an option. While it is not often that results are delayed they can be from time to time. If you are one of these travelers please let us know at the time of booking. However, please note this is a scientific process and while we use best efforts to turn tests around quickly timing of results cannot be guaranteed.

Can I add my passport to my test results?

Yes. Several countries around the world require passport information on the test results in order for the results to be accepted. If this is required please email after you receive your test results. We will only make the changes once the test has been confirmed negative.

What are some of the travel guidelines around COVID-19 travel and when I require a test?

French Polynesia (Tahiti) – 3 days prior
Aruba – 3 days prior
Bermuda – 5 days prior
Costa Rica – 72 Hours prior
Dominican Republic – test before you leave or upon arrival
Guadeloupe – 72 hours
Saint Lucia – 7 days prior
Turks and Caicos – 5 days prior

What happens if I test positive?

All positive test results are sent to Public Health in accordance with Provincial guidelines and regulations. Our nurse will also call you at the number provided upon registration within 24 hours of your result to check up with you and answer any questions you may have.

What should I do if I got tested as a family / workplace and not everyone has received their test results?

Don’t worry. There is absolutely no link between the timing of your result and what that result might be. While we use best efforts to batch our runs based on time and groupings it can happen that members in one family/group may find their samples in a different run than others.

Our process is HIPPA and PHIPPA complaint so once your swab is taken there is no way for anybody to identify it as you. Our technicians don’t have the ability to look for groupings. They are busy processing. So if your results don’t come at the same time as a friend or family member don’t worry. Please know we are working diligently to get it you as fast as possible.

Is your clinic wheelchair accessible?

You mention fast results on your website. Are you doing Rapid Tests?

Now Testing conducts RT-PCR as well as Rapid Antigen tests on Health Canada Approved devices. If you are using this test for travel, the test will be conducted via RT-PCR.

Can I buy a bulk package of tests for my company?

Yes, we offer Individual and Corporate packages. Please reach out to for information and pricing.

Do I get a refund if my results aren't provided within the 4 hours?

Our mission is to provide faster results however PCR testing is a complex scientific process and if your results are delayed they are still being processed. We do not offer refunds for delays.

Please note that on occasion a patrons email server may bounce our server and we aren’t notified until the patron informs us. If you don’t have your results by 9:00 am the following morning please email so we can resend and ensure delivery. While it’s unfortunate individuals don’t get their results as soon as they’re available this is a technical issue that has to do more with modern technology than our ability to deliver our service.

What if I test positive for SARS-CoV-2?

Although Now Testing uses Health Canada approved RT-PCR testing, we are not a diagnostics lab. We are a screening centre designed for peace of mind, travel, and corporate needs.

If your test does come back positive for COVID-19 we send your results to Public Health who may be in touch with you. We also recommend that you contact public health for a diagnostic testing and further instructions on next steps. If you are feeling unwell, we recommend that you contact your family physician or emergency department based on your symptoms.

Do you test children?

Our sample collection is completed by RNs (Registered Nurses) and RPNs (Registered Practical Nurses) who are trained to perform sample collections on people of all ages. However, due to the type of nasal swabs we use, we do not collect samples on children under the age of two.

You said I would get my results, but it's past the 4-hour mark and I don't see them?

While we do everything in our power to get you results within 4 hours, in some rare cases, due to the complexities and the nature of PCR testing, a test run may need to be repeated.

We will do our best to communicate this to you and provide you with updated timing. In most cases, it will be before 9AM the next morning. If you do not see your results by 9AM the next morning, please check your spam folder as it can get caught in there in error.

If you still can not find your results, please send us an email at and we will work to get you your results as quickly as possible.

Workplace Self Screening FAQ's

What type of Rapid Screening Kit can my workplace receive for free?

Abbott Rapid Pabio Antigen Screening Kits are provided by the Ontario Government complimentary to small and medium sized businesses as an additional tool to help keep workplaces in Ontario safe. Care and attention to following the proper process for the screening kits is essential for this tool to be effective as any misuse can negatively impact the workplace.

The latest information from Health Canada suggests that up to one-third of people carrying the COVID-19 virus are asymptomatic with little to no noticeable symptoms. Over 50% of known COVID-19 cases were transmitted by an asymptomatic carrier. This makes it incredibly important to find asymptomatic carriers in order to combat the spread of COVID in our workplaces and our communities.

Frequent screening with rapid antigen tests increases the chances of early identification of cases in asymptomatic individuals ONLY. Recommended frequency is twice per employee, per week.

The Ontario Government has also released guidance for organizations that choose to participate in COVID-19 screening that falls outside of the public health care system, to ensure there is appropriate oversight and consumer protection and that public resources are supporting public health initiatives.

Who can businesses give screening kits to and who can we screen?

At this time, you CANNOT give screening kits to anyone other than your employees. The kits are ONLY for use with your employees that are frequently coming to the workplace.

You cannot use these kits to screen anyone other than employees coming to the workplace (for example, you cannot use these kits to screen customers, clients, patients, etc).

Employees have the right to refuse to be screened. When an employee agrees to be screened, they are also giving their consent for you to collect and report the results.

What is the accuracy of these screens?

The screening kits are highly accurate – in the range of 90% accurate – however there are circumstances where they may show a false positive or false negative. This is why NO ONE SHOWING SYMPTOMS should be screened using these screening kits, as a false negative result could put the organization at risk of exposure. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must get a PCR test and follow public health guidelines.

How do we dispose of the waste?

The screen pad and vial (with the swab and buffering agent in) are considered hazardous waste. Some businesses may have the ability to dispose of this material safely. If not, then Now Testing can appropriately dispose of this waste when refilling your order.

How is the screening administered - through the nostril or mouth?

Rapid Antigen Screening is a nasal swab and not invasive. The swab must be inserted into each nostril 2 cm (1 inch) for 5 to 7 seconds, while ensuring the inside of the nostril is wiped by the swab for that time. Now Testing can provide training – please select this option during time of booking and a registered Health Care Professional will schedule a Training Video Call with you or your designated team member.

What is the reporting responsibility our business has with respects to the results of the screens?

When you pick up your screening kits, you will be asked to sign a document that makes you responsible to report all results of the screening kits in your possession. The data that is required to be reported is: total number of screens completed, total number of positive results, total number of negative results, and total number of inconclusive results. Please Click Here to report your results.

How many staff can go to pick up and train for the screening kits?

Due to safety protocols and capacity limits of our training area, we are limiting in-person visits to the facility. Please send ONLY one person from your organization to pick up screening kits.

Can I just drop in and pick up kits for refills of my order?

To keep everyone safe, it is important that we keep the number of people onsite at any one time to a minimum to reduce the opportunity of close contact. You MUST wait until your confirmed pick up day and time. You will receive an email from Now Testing with your time/day confirmation.

We have a process in place to get people in and out of the pick up facility as quickly as possible. In good weather, we may run a curbside pick up option, however we still ask you to only go to the distribution site on your confirmed day and time.

If an employee has a positive or inconclusive result, what is the next step?

Anyone who receives a result of positive or inconclusive from the screening kit MUST immediately self-isolate and contact local Public Health for a PCR Test within 24 hours. Anyone with a positive of inconclusive result cannot be permitted in the workplace until there is a confirmed (by Public Health) negative test result.

It is REQUIRED that the employee notify Public Health with any positive results immediately.

Are we required to report all presumptive positives and Inconclusive to the Local Public Health authority?

As per the Ministry of Health guidelines the responsibility of reporting to Public Health is the administrator of the rapid screen. Since in Ontario self administrations of the screens is permissible, it is the responsibility of the employee who self administered the screen to report to Public Health. The Ministry also requires that no employee will be allowed to return to the workplace until a negative PCR diagnostic result is received from Public Health.

Now Testing will be reporting all data collected to the Ministry of Health and Health Canada for data collection.

Who can perform the screen on the employees?

The Ontario Government authorizes “self” screening for these kits. However, there is a requirement that screenings are supervised by a Screening Supervisor. The Screening Supervisor is the person who has participated in training prior to picking up the initial order of screening kits and received the follow up email.

Employees must do their own screenings; no one should perform a screening on anyone else. The Screening Supervisor is present during the screenings to instruct employees and ensure the procedure is followed for an accurate result.

Can other people in the organization be trained to supervise the screening process?

At this point the Ministry of Health requires that a trained individual supervises the screening process. You will receive an email after your initial pick up with additional support materials which can be used as a refresher and/or train other supervisors.

What is the frequency we should be screening our employees?

The recommendation from public health is that all employees should be screened twice per week.

Some businesses may want to test their employees more frequently because of the setting or higher frequency of close contact. If that is the case for your business, please contact us at and we will try to fulfill the order if possible. Providing screening kits to test more frequently will affect our supply and we will need notice in order to alert our supplier.

Conversely some businesses may want to test employees less frequently or may have a variety of employee schedules to consider. It is the responsibility of each business to determine frequency of screening. Please put the safety of your employees first, which will help to ensure you have a safe workplace.

Do these kits have an expiry date?

The screening kits do expire. It appears that our supply of screening kits have expiry dates in 2022. We will advise businesses if the screening kits are close to expiring.

Using the kits after they expire is not advisable as their accuracy may be compromised. Caution should be taken to review the box and ensure the kits are not expired.

Do we only screen employees who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms?

No! In fact, anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must be kept OUT of the workplace and must not be allowed to return until local public health provides a confirmed negative result from a diagnostic PCR Test and all public health guidelines have been adhered to.

It is allergy season and people are experiencing symptoms similar to COVID-19. Should we avoid screening people that may be experiencing allergy symptoms, or should we screen them regardless?

Again, anyone showing symptoms that are similar to COVID-19 could in fact be infectious and should not be screened using these rapid screening kits; they should be immediately contact public health for a PCR assessment.

While we recognize some symptoms can resemble allergies, it is important that these symptoms are not ignored or overlooked as there could be a risk to the organization.

I am a consultant that works with clients on workplace safety. Can I order screening kits on behalf of my clients and screen their employees?

No. These screening kits are provided free of charge to small and medium sized businesses for their sole purpose. A designated employee must be assigned the responsibility of taking the supervisor training, ensuring proper screening processes are adhered to and reporting the results of the screening kits on behalf of the employer.

Can I purchase extra kits so I can screen those I want to? If so, how much do the screening kits cost?

No. The screening kits are not for sale and we are not authorized to charge anyone for these kits. When picking up your order, you will be required to sign a document stipulating that you not sell or distribute these screening kits.

The value of the box of 25 kits is approximately $200 based on known retail information. The screening kits are expensive, and we are able to offer the kits at no cost to businesses because they are funded by the Federal and Provincial Governments.

I am a volunteer/employee for an organization we have a number of volunteers that would like to meet regularly in-person. Can these kits be used for that purpose?

No. The screening kits are not to be used to validate or substantiate not following public health guidelines. The kits are not intended to be used to verify negative carriers so that restrictions issued by the province or local public health can be waived. Any person who screens presumptive negative, MUST continue to follow public health measures of distancing, washing their hands, wearing a mask properly, and adhering to public health gathering orders.

Some of our employees are required to travel for business. Can these screening kits validate them for travel?

No. While these screening kits are extremely reliable, they are not a tool for travel or usurping any Federal, Provincial or International guidelines. We do offer Quick & Reliable COVID-19 Tests with results that can be used for travelling. More information can be found here

I noticed there is a package marked “Control Swabs” in each box of screening kits. What do we use them for?

Contained in each box of screening kits, you will find two “Control Swabs”; one of those swabs will produce a negative result and the other swab will produce a positive result. These control swabs are ONLY to be used for quality control purposes. If you are finding that the results of screening kits from a particular box are not showing up on the testing pads, then you can follow the process in the manual provided to do a quality control check of the pads by simply following the same testing regime. DO NOT SWAB ANYONE WITH THESE CONTROL SWABS; the swabs already have ingredients on them to produce results in the quality control process.

While the positive control swab will show positive for COVID-19, there is nothing on the swab that is infectious or that will pass COVID-19 to a person. It is a pre-loaded swab and should not be used for anything other than quality control, if required.
